Class code 9058 — Hotel — Restaurant Employees

Restaurant, bar, room-service and banquet staff in food and beverage outlets the hotel itself operates.

9058 is the classification for the food and beverage staff of a hotel or motel — the cooks, servers, bartenders, banquet crew and room-service runners who work in a restaurant, lounge or event operation that the hotel itself owns or manages. It exists alongside 9052, which carries the rest of the hotel’s staff, so a full-service property normally reports payroll in both.

The condition that matters is control. If the restaurant on the ground floor is leased to an independent operator who employs its own staff, those workers belong to that operator’s restaurant classification and the hotel reports nothing for them. If the hotel runs the outlet under its own management, its staff move to 9058 instead of a freestanding restaurant or bar code.

The injury profile mirrors a busy commercial kitchen — burns, knife cuts, slips on greasy floors — plus the lifting that comes with setting and striking banquet rooms and carrying trays through long corridors and service elevators. Hotels with heavy wedding and banquet calendars tend to see more strain claims than properties with a single bistro.

What this code means for your premium

Hotel food and beverage payroll usually tracks close to restaurant classifications; banquet-heavy operations and late-night lounges tend to drive more frequent claims than a breakfast-only outlet.

Classification is not final until a carrier assigns it. Code numbers, wording and exceptions vary by state and rating bureau — several states run their own bureaus.
